artistic practice as daily life: reflecting inward and outward

kettmade: one year later

Posted by Colleen on April 27, 2009

wowzers. it has been since last June that I updated this blog. And looking at the date, I see why.

the Kett family has been busy creating and venturing into many exciting projects.

Central to MY heart was the discovery last June of the blooming of our second child, who was born this February 2009 at home in a sea of sunshine.

Mark has been extremely busy and focussed upon a dedicated and extremely detailed inlay project with fellow Luthier Linda Manzer and musician Pat Metheny.

This has left little focus for kett made. goods!

WEll while in the throes of baby moon, two of my favorite online retaielrs contacted me and asked me for spoonage. With a gap in between deadlines with the Metheny/Manzer project, Mark was able to stock both Birdies Room in Canada and Tiny Birds Organics in the USA with kett made. spoon. Birdies Room will also be carrying several of the wooden cooking utensils!

Check them out!

For this week, All that I Do Know

Posted by Colleen on May 29, 2008

This will come as a fairly introspective and personal post then my meager audience maybe used to.

This is whole blog is built on the premise of art reflecting inward and outward.

I am always hesitant to share the inward process, especially with an online media.

This week has been a fairly difficult week for this Kett of the kett made. Still feeling raw from the tramuas having catalysed such a horrific rollercoaster, I am only comfortable with sharing where this has taken me subsequently.

Thats all I can do really. Is look forward. Take Inventory. Take stock.

And with all terrible things that can happen, ask myself how this renews my commitment to survival and survival of a Newer Enlighted Self.

This is how I originally discovered life as an artform. And how I chose consciously a life that led me to discover my husband, my current self and inevitably my child.

eggs within thine oval shell

Posted by Colleen on May 26, 2008

Artist Ron aka the EggMan

Featuring Ron the EggMan:

“I have been carving egg shells for about 25 years now but I have always dabbled in some form of Art. I loved pencil drawing in grade and high school, did some scrimshaw over in Nam in the 60’s, some air brushing after I got out of the sevice, woodworking and then engraving and scrimshaw again.

Back in the early 80’s, I had a couple of friends modify a Dental Drill for me, the bur came out at a 90 degree angle and they revamped the hand piece so it came straight out, so I could use it in my scrimshaw work. When they gave it to me, they made a comment that it was probably gentle enough to engrave an egg with. About a year later, I decided to give that a try. Needless to say, it worked and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Origami Themes

Posted by Colleen on May 20, 2008

This is my newest fabric obsession!

I’ve contacted the seller to see if they are able to get me a larger cut of it. I am thinking for the Baby’s room in our new home, an Origami theme: gentle but colorful, might be really nice!!

I’ve tried with no results to find out who the fabric artist is and eagerly await hearing back from the Etsy seller!

A Time of Quietude

Posted by Colleen on May 6, 2008

Been quiet lately. Living! Out experiencing! Finding inspiration. Currently I am working thru the book ‘40 Days and 40 Nights’ by Ilene Segalove. When I am ready to emerg from the experience I will share.

I do highly recommend it! Or taking a gander generally.

In the interim, while in my quietude, I will share a picture. I took of recent of Mark and Baby playing guitar (yes, there IS a string missing teehee)
